Pinhole Photography 2023 594mm×420mm(6240*4160)
This series of photographs is a continuation of the String series and focuses on my relationship with my father. The camera captures my father in the middle of an insulin injection. Unlike the complicated relationship I have with my mother, my father and I are more like strange but familiar "friends". My father didn't say much to me growing up, but always assured me that he supported my every choice and was proud of me. In contrast to the pressure and fear from my mother, my father gave me constant support and concern. Although we don't communicate much with each other, when I am lost, my father always quietly tells me that he will always support me as long as I pursue what I want to do.
This photo was taken in August 2023, the first time I met my father in three years. We had not been able to see each other after high school for various reasons. I remember when we parted in high school, my father looked at me and kindly instructed me to live a good life. However, when we met again three years later, my father was already different from the man I remembered, as he needed daily insulin injections because of his illness and was blind in one eye. After taking this set of photos, I wanted to express my concern to him, but I didn't know how to express it. In the end, I chose to keep the photos. At the exhibition, I sent the photos of the exhibition site to my father, again wanting to express my concern, but even at that point I was unable to say it. My father did not say anything, but just told me that he believed I would become a great artist. This group of photos is actually my daily communication with my father, we don't say too much, just like this group of photos doesn't have too much text introduction and other embellishments. It's a silent communication, an emotion that has been expressed in my heart with my father.
